This is a somewhat unconventional aid in Marxist-Leninist
philosophy, expressed in diagrams, tables and
illustrations.
Textbooks and manuals usually present the Marxist-
-Leninist philosophy by spelling out its laws, categories,
principles and propositions in verbal language. This is
o nly natural, fo r without such a verbal account it is
impossible to convey the depth and versatility o f the
Marxist-Leninist philosophy. As fo r this album, which
uses the language o f diagrams, tables and illustrations,
i t w ill help to present a more graphic and convincing
picture o f the Marxist-Leninist philosophy, especially
against the background o f and in conjunction with
fundamental propositions by Marx, Engels and Lenin.
Thus, at the beginning o f the book we fin d the classical
definition by Engels o f the basic question o f p h ilosophy
and its aspects, followed by a simple and convincing
diagram illustrating that proposition. And so
page afte r page. Almost every proposition o f the
Marxist-Leninist philosophy is expressed in graphic
terms.
The diagrams show the main forms o f materialism and
idealism, their leading representatives from antiquity
to ou r day, the main stages in the development o f
dialectics, and contain a great deal o f other material
O f great interest is the diagram showing the functions
o f the Mancist-Leninist philosophy—world-outlook,
methodological, revolutionary-transformative
and ideological.
The charts, tables and illustrations reflect the structure
o f the Marxist-Leninist philosophy, with propositions
on the Leninist stage in the development o f philosophy
and its creative nature.
None o f the major propositions o f the Marxist-Leninist
philosophy has been overlooked in this album, be it
Lenin’s definition o f matter, the forms o f its existence,
consciousness, its origins and essence, the categories
o f materialist dialectics, etc. The Marxist-Leninist
philosophy is being illustrated consistently, chapter
by chapter, with the use o f diverse forms. These include
quotations from Marx, Engels and Lenin, diagrams,
tables and illustrations. Many propositions are
not simply illustrated, but elaborated, supplemented
and concretised.
There is no need fo r a detailed analysis o f this visual
aid: the reader will judge fo r himself. We hope that the
album w ill facilitate the study o f the Marxist-Leninist
philosophy, bring it to the notice o f a wide readership,
and help to spread the scientific, Marxist-Leninist
world outlook.
